Thought I’d share a little bit about me and why I created this website.

I began researching my family history over 23 years ago. It hasn’t always been easy – there have been plenty of frustrations, unanswered questions, and moments when I thought I’d reached a dead end. But when the records align and a family mystery is solved, the feeling of accomplishment is immense. Seeing generations connect and stories come to life makes every hour of research worthwhile.

Today, my family tree is far more than a static chart of names and dates; it is not a finished project, nor will it ever be. Instead, it is a living, breathing work-in-progress – a restless, expanding creature that breathes through the dust of archives and thrives on the momentum of curiosity. It is also a reminder that no matter how isolated we feel, there is always another branch, another story, and another person out there who shares the same ancient, winding path.

In the past, my understanding of my past family members were a collection of black and white photographs, old certificates and a handful of stories. After many years of research my tree has stopped reaching upwards and has started sprouting sideways, bringing in new cousins and distant relatives from all over the world.

Then came the DNA test results. Every few months, an email notification pings like a heartbeat ‘You have a new DNA match’ and the search continues. It also reminds me that I may just be a single leaf on a branch, but I am still part of a huge tree with many other single leaves on branches.

When I first started researching my family history in the early 2000’s, there were only a handful of websites available to help with genealogy research. Information was often limited, but in some ways that made the process easier because there were fewer resources to navaigate.

Today, the situation is very different. There are countless genealogy websites, databases, forums and online archives available at the click of a button. While this wealth of information is a tremendous advantage, it can also feel overwhelming, especially for beginners who may not know where to start or which resources are worth using.

That is one of the main reasons I decided to create this website. My goal is to help make genealogy research more accessible by guiding newcomers through the process, highlighting useful resources, and providing a clear starting point for anyone interested in discovering their family history.
